ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
STUDIO V
ARC60608/ 60306
This design studio focuses on place-making within dense urban environments, guiding students to explore urban-responsive architectural design through narrative and poetic expression. Emphasis is placed on understanding both the tangible and intangible qualities of urban contexts through townscape appraisal and contextual studies, followed by responsive architectural design development. Rather than complex programming, the studio encourages in-depth interpretation of urban conditions, leading to a final architectural proposal that engages with the spirit of place, everyday urban life, and the relationship between plan, section, and elevation to create a vibrant and meaningful urban block.

Reflection
This module has strengthened my understanding of urban place-making and the role of architecture in shaping meaningful relationships between the built environment and urban communities. Through townscape appraisal and contextual studies, I learned to read both the tangible and intangible qualities of the city, translating social patterns, cultural narratives, and regulatory constraints into design strategies. The studio encouraged me to develop architectural ideas as a clear narrative, refining my ability to connect concept, massing, and spatial experience. I also gained greater confidence in integrating materiality, detailing, and environmental considerations to enhance the experiential quality of my design. Overall, the module has deepened my design thinking and sharpened my ability to produce a context-responsive architectural proposal that engages with everyday urban life.
