PROJECT BRIEF

INTRODUCTION

This assignment is designed to assess students' understanding of building construction through drawings and model making, focusing on the detailed aspects of building elements.

It aims to develop an appreciation for the interplay between design and technical knowledge.

Success in design projects relies on addressing construction methods, integrating structural elements, and selecting appropriate materials.

The assignment also emphasizes the importance of understanding technical details in both construction and architectural design.

OBJECTIVES

Foster comprehension of structural components in construction and their practical implementation in the sector

Exhibit awareness of how buildings are created in response to practical factors

Demonstrate understanding of construction through manual drawings and physical models

Provide an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge and skills in construction, materials, and technology

TASKS

  • Demonstrate their understanding of construction principles through manual drawings, which will be a key part of their final ADII project

  • The main objective is to develop a detailed construction section from roof to foundation, accompanied by a physical model reflecting the unique design of their ADII project

  • Additionally, each student must create a unique special detail as part of the assignmen

  • Design a simple building that meets user requirements and respects the site context, balancing internal (spaces, layout, circulation) and external (aesthetics, forms) design values.

I gained practical insights into timber joinery, foundational work, and the assembly of flooring and roofing systems. This hands-on experience reinforced the theoretical concepts and enhanced my ability to apply construction details effectively in real-world scenarios.

The project significantly enhanced my intrapersonal skills by improving my ability to manage time and maintain focus on complex tasks. I developed greater self-discipline as I navigated the detailed aspects of construction, such as timber joinery and foundation work.

REFLECTION

Reflecting on the project involving construction details, I gained valuable insights into the complexities of timber joinery. Understanding how to connect various timber elements effectively underscored the importance of precision and craftsmanship in achieving structural stability and durability. This aspect of the project highlighted how critical careful detailing is to the overall strength and longevity of a building.

Additionally, the project provided a thorough examination of foundational work, flooring, and roofing. I learned about the techniques and considerations necessary for constructing a solid foundation, installing flooring, and setting up roofing systems. Each of these components is vital for ensuring the building's stability, functionality, and resistance to environmental factors.

Overall, the project significantly expanded my knowledge of construction processes and details. By engaging with practical aspects of building assembly, I developed a deeper appreciation for the technical and aesthetic considerations involved in creating well-constructed spaces. This experience has equipped me with a stronger foundation in construction principles and improved my ability to address real-world building challenges.
