PROJECT 2
HERITAGE & CONSERVATION PROPOSAL (50% INDIVIDUAL)
PROJECT BRIEF
INTRODUCTION
Architectural heritage structures, due to their unique history, materials, and construction, pose specific challenges in diagnosis and restoration, which makes it difficult to apply modern legal codes and building standards.
It is essential to make recommendations that ensure logical analysis and repair methods that are suitable for the cultural context.
OBJECTIVES
Familiarize students with the fundamental principles and concepts of heritage conservation and documentation
Help students identify and comprehend the processes involved in heritage conservation and management

Conclusion and Summary

1.0 Discipline Specific Knowledge
6.0 Intrapersonal Skills
By using restorative and rehabilitative methods, I addressed issues such as peeling paint, structural damage, and functional obsolescence, ensuring that the building's historical value was not compromised. Furthermore, I explored spatial functionality by considering how the gallery would engage visitors and encourage interaction with both the art and the heritage of the space.
I demonstrated resilience in facing the challenges that came with working on an adaptive reuse project, such as addressing structural issues and finding ways to integrate modern functions into an existing space.
Through these challenges, I became more confident in my decision-making abilities and learned how to better manage my time, resources, and workload.
REFLECTION
For this project, I focused on the adaptive reuse of the Junk Bookstore, aiming to transform it into a dynamic space that blends heritage and modernity.
I felt a deep connection to the site's history and architectural character, which significantly influenced my design decisions. The conservation methods of restoration and rehabilitation were essential to maintain the integrity of the building, respecting its original elements while introducing new functionalities.
The process of designing a book and art gallery required me to carefully balance functionality with heritage preservation. I found the integration of local art and books to be an opportunity to celebrate both the cultural and historical significance of the space, fostering a deeper connection with the community.
Through this project, I gained a better understanding of how adaptive reuse can breathe new life into old buildings while preserving their legacy. It was a rewarding experience, and I look forward to further exploring how adaptive reuse can continue to serve both the past and the future.
